So we had an awesome Christmas…
Dec 26th, 2006 by Beth
Wow, is it over already?? What a busy few days. The in-laws came up for a visit (did I mention that I have the best in-laws ever?) and just left an hour or so ago. We had such a great time with old traditions and starting new ones.
One of the old traditions we followed was the big Christmas Eve meal. We picked up a few tenderloin steaks from The Chopping Block in Powdersville (DANG those filets are excellent!!) and had steak and potatoes on Christmas eve. Then, believe it or not, everyone slept in on Christmas day and we didn’t even get started on presents until nearly 9:00!
Everyone got pretty much everything they wanted. Michael got me an espresso machine(!!! love that man!!!) and the piano sheet music to the soundtrack of “Pride and Prejucide” - the one that came out in theaters earlier this year. My in-laws gave me a copy of “Martha Stewart’s Homekeeping Handbook” and it is just awesome. I tell ya, that woman is a genious. I can’t wait to get started cleaning and organizing. With the appropriate help from Michael and the boys, of course.
Michael got money to go toward - what else? - a new camera. He also got this great clock radio with nature sounds. I fell asleep last night listening to “thunder.”
The kids got video games and clothes - hehee Matt got a shirt that said “I’m probably lying” - and shoes. Lots of goodies to eat too.
We ate way too much food. I made those awesome Tyler Florence pork chops but I doctored the recipe a little bit to do something Rachael Ray did, stuffing them with a cornbread-and-cranberry dressing. Very festive for Christmas day. We had a nice side dish of nutty-tasting wild rice, and some leftover Hot German Potato Salad from the night before. Top it off with a cup of coffee and Nona’s (my mother-in-law’s) homemade carrot cake, and all is well with the world.
Tomorrow, it’s back to work - yuck. But, for a few more hours at least, I can enjoy what’s left of the magic of Christmas.
I hope your holiday was as special as ours!!
