It’s Labor Day!!
Sep 4th, 2006 by Beth
Wow… it sure does feel nice to be sitting on my couch in my PJ’s drinking coffee on a Monday morning instead of slaving away at the office. Whoever came up with the Labor Day holiday must be thanked.
I got up really early this morning - 6 am (yes, Michael thought I was nuts too). But TCM was showing a great old silent film starring Gloria Swanson and Rudolph Valentino that I just had to watch. I’ve turned into somewhat of a silent-film-buff over the past several months. I saw a couple of really cheesy, melodramatic ones and now I’m hooked. :-}
The kids are already getting on my nerves. They’re out of school tomorrow, too, and are already griping because Michael & I are making them play outside (horrors!!). I suggested they play Frisbee… they can’t find the Frisbee. What about football or baseball? Don’t want to brave the closet to find the ball. Why not ride bikes? “But I have a flat tiiiiiiiiire.”
So I sent the kids, pushing their bikes, up to the gas station at the end of the street with a quarter to get their tires pumped up. The 1 1/2 mile walk will do them some good. Plus they can ride the bikes around all day now.
The downside? When they come back they will have that teenage boy funk smell going on. Is there anything on this earth that smells worse than stinky teenage guys? Well, OK, yeah, I can think of a few (like litterboxes and that stuff in the very back of my fridge), but dang do those kids stink.
Speaking of boys, check out what an old friend of mine learned while helping her teenage son clean his room (scroll down ’till you see ‘Observations in a Boy’s Room’).
Until later… I wish you all a blessed and labor-free Labor Day!
